[Report] Nintendo Switch Capable Of 4K Coming Later This Year

There have been rumours since even late last year that Nintendo was planning to launch a new Nintendo Switch model in 2021. That might turn out to be true if a new Bloomberg report is to be believed.

According to an article by Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki and Sohee Kim, Nintendo is planning to release a new model of the Nintendo Switch with a bigger seven-inch 720p Samsung OLED display capable of 4K resolution when connected to a TV.

The same sources claim that this new Nintendo Switch Pro model will start production in June 2021 with an initial monthly target of just under a million units and slated to ship to assemblers sometime in July 2021.

Display consultancy DSCC co-founder Yoshio Tamura (who was cited in the same Bloomberg article) said:

“The OLED panel will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display.”

However, we should take all of this with a grain of salt for now. Representatives from both Nintendo and Samsung have declined to comment when contacted by Bloomberg. Plus, just last month in February 2021, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company is not planning to release a new Nintendo Switch model “anytime soon”.

It remains to be seen if the Nintendo Switch will be as relevant to this gaming generation as it was during the PS4/Xbox One era. Can it stand up to the technical prowess of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, or will it finally falter? Only time will tell, but so far, the Nintendo Switch is still going as strong as ever.

With upcoming games like Monster Hunter Rise and Pokemon Legends Arceus, it doesn’t seem like Nintendo Switch fans need to worry for now. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, stay tuned on Kakuchopurei!
