Sony Animation’s Next Project Is About A Demon-Slaying K-Pop Group

It was bound to happen: someone’s bright idea to mix K-Pop artists with magical girl demon-slaying anime tropes. Who knew that it would be coming from Sony Pictures Animation, the same folks behind Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball and Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse?

According to a Sony Pictures Animation tweet, The Lego Ninjago Movie’s Maggie Kang and Wish Dragon’s Chris Appelhans will be directing the upcoming K-Pop: Demon Hunters. It’s in the title: an animated musical featuring a K-Pop girl group who moonlight as demon hunters. To quote Maggie Kang (via Variety):

“Having been a fan of the genre since its beginnings in the ’90s, this film is my love letter to K-Pop and my Korean roots. It encompasses and celebrates everything K-Pop is—it’s the film I would want to see as a lifelong fan and I hope the millions of K-Pop fans out there in the world will feel the same.”

Apart from that announcement and that sweet artwork above, not much has been revealed for now.
