All The Anime From Netflix’s AnimeJapan 2021 Showcase

We have the scoop of the latest anime series and films that are coming out for Netflix in Southeast Asia, straight out of the AnimeJapan 2021 expo. Here they are:

Yasuke

A peaceful boatman known as the Black Samurai goes back into fighting and ronin work when he takes a little girl under his wing. The title samurai will be voiced by LaKeith Stansfield (also executive producer to the show). The show’s animation production is handled by MAPPA, while its music is by Flying Lotus.

Out 29th April.

Eden

Created by Yasuhiro Irie, this post-apocalyptic tale is about a little girl and her robot family trying to find signs of life in the harsh cruel wasteland. Produced by a Chinese animation company called CGCG, this 3D anime looks like it may break away from the “3D anime bad” stigma.

This show will premiere on 27 May.

Record of Ragnarok

13 gods battle one-on-one tournament arc shonen anime-style to determine the survival of mankind. The animation and action will be produced by Graphinica and directed by Masao Okubo. Voice cast include Miyuki Sawashiro, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Tomokazu Seki, Hikaru Midorikawa, and Wataru Takagi.

The show will be out this June.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

A serialized CG anime based on the famous survival horror game featuring zombies, zombie dogs, and an irresponsible pharmaceutical-slash-chemicals conglomerate. Not much is known about the show except that its protagonists are Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and the actual setting will be in the White House.

In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation.

The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to realise some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core.”

In other words, it’s pretty much a Tuesday for the duo. The show is being made by Quebico and TMS Entertainment. The show will be out in 2021.

Way of the Househusband

A former badass yakuza named Tatsu dedicates his life to being the best househusband to his wife, no matter what it takes. Even when he has his former yakuza enemies and mob bosses still putting a hit on him. This wacky premise is based on a story by Kosuke Oono, and will be directed by Nodame Cantabile’s Chiaki Kon.

The show is clearly going for a balance between badass Yakuza tropes with happy-go-lucky nonsense, as you can tell from the trailer. Longtime animation studio J.C. Staff looks like it’s up to the task of making the adaptation of the hit manga look spiffy.

This quirky show will be premiering on 8th April.
