Borderlands 3 Introduces Vault Cards & Diamond Keys, Effectively Bringing In Dailies

Most MMORPGs have you doing dailies; everyday quests that net you a bit of rewards here and there to keep player engagement a-going. Borderlands 3 will be doing that with a new Vault Cards and Diamond Keys system for its upcoming Director’s Cut add-on.

Vault Cards are game mods that give you more loot and XP. When Director’s Cut launches on 8th April, you’ll get the first Vault Card: Fallen Heroes. Once you fulfil the conditions of the Vault Cards, you’ll earn rewards based on what the card is themed around. In the first one’s case, it’s for formerly-living Borderlands heroes like Scooter, Roland, and Maya. You cannot turn on multiple Vault Cards though; you can only activate one. Vault Cards will feature over a 100 unique challenges, so you’ll not be doing the same thing twice.

Once you level up a Vault Card, you get a Vault Card Chest unique to that card, which contains one of the following:

  • A piece of gear from the weekly loot pool,
  • a cosmetic item from that Vault Card,
  • Eridium,
  • a Vault Card Key,
  • a Diamond Key.

Don’t worry about getting duplicates; if you already scored a cosmetic item, you’ll get a Vault Card Key instead.

The Fallen Heroes Vault Card will contain the following rewards:

  • 4 pieces of new Legendary gear (Sniper Rifle, SMG, Rocket Launcher, Shield)
  • 4 Vault Hunter Heads
  • 4 shared Vault Hunter Skins
  • 4 ECHO Device skins
  • 3 Weapon skins
  • 4 Weapon Trinkets
  • 2 Emotes
  • 3 Room Decorations

To complement this, and also being aware that most players since 2019 are at max level already, Borderlands will have new Daily and Weekly Challenges that give you an XP boost. Check your ECHO Device to see what new Daily and Weekly challenges you get.

So What Are Diamond Keys?

Diamond Keys unlock the Diamond Armory which is an entire room filled with loot chests. To use a Diamond Key, visit the Diamond Armory which is located beneath the Bridge on Sanctuary III’s upper deck.

When you approach the three nearby walls, you’ll see three symbols: Shields, Weapons, and Grenades. When you use a Diamond Key here, the shutters on the walls open up, and you’re given limited time to pick between the three. If you run out of time, the game gives you one of the loot types at random. If you keep doing this, you will power up a Diamond Chest in the centre that will produce a guaranteed Legendary item. In other words, each time you open the Diamond Chest, you’ll get four items total with one Legendary.
