How Video Game Companies Are Speaking Out Against Recent Anti-Asian Violence
This week was pretty grim as there were a string of murders that happened in Atlanta, Georgia in the US of A. As such, video game companies expressed their support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
To recap, the alleged shooter of the murders killed eight people, with six of them of Asian descent. Coupled with the fact that US President Joe Biden brought up hate crimes against Asian Americans during the coronavirus pandemic to some startling numbers and data from the Stop AAPI Hate group, this led to the #StopAsianHate hashtag trending on Twitter this week.
Several game companies like Bandai Namco, PlayStation, Xbox, and Ubisoft showed their support via social media. Some of them also made donations to the relevant organizations to make a difference.
“We are troubled by a recent pattern of violence targeting the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. It’s time to take action. SIE is making a donation to Stop AAPI Hate, and we hope you can too. Learn how you can help here: https://stopaapihate.org“
