In The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Episode 4, we finally saw what happened following that ending from Episode 3.
I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers from The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Episode 4 so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.
Also, if you haven’t, you can check out my previous breakdown and easter egg articles for WandaVision Episode 1 and 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, Episode 8 and Episode 9.
For The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, you can check out my previous breakdowns here Episode 1 and Episode 2.
If you want a non-spoiler guide to The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, you can head on over here.
Six years ago (when Bucky was in Wakanda), Ayo (Florence Kasumba) helped Bucky break free of his HYDRA brainwashing.
Zemo confronts Karli Morgenthau (leader of the Flag Smashers) and manages to incapacitate her by shooting her. He then destroys most of the Super Soldier Serum in her possession, but John Walker interrupts Zemo before he could finish doing so. Walker finds one and keeps it for himself.
Is this John Walker’s eventual transformation into the US Agent from the comics? In the comics, he gets his Super Soldier abilities directly from the Power Broker, but it looks like that won’t be the case for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) version. Will John Walker be a Super Soldier by the end of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier? We’ll have to wait and see.
This was an embarrassing moment for John Walker AKA the self-proclaimed Captain America as he gets beat down by Ayo and her fellow Dora Milaje. Even Bucky gets his vibranium metal arm literally ‘disarmed’ (it falls off from his body) by Ayo in the fight. Meanwhile, Zemo just takes the opportunity to slip away undetected.
Just look at John Walker’s defeated face.
Near the end of this episode, John Walker is suspiciously able to hold his own against one of Flag-Smasher Super Soldiers. When he throws the shield, it gets lodged deep in a wall. When he kicks the Flag-Smasher member, he gets thrown around like a ragdoll. The biggest evidence is when John can bend a metal bar with his bare hands, confirming that he’s already taken the Super Soldier Serum.
During the climactic fight in the episode, Lemar successfully stops Karli from killing John Walker but dies in the attempt. Karli accidentally kills Lemar with a single punch, and this will surely lead to a much more unhinged John Walker. So far, the only person capable of holding back John and help keep his more violent tendencies in check was Lemar.
Now that Lemar is dead, what’s stopping John Walker from going full-on rage mode, especially now that he’s a Super Soldier himself?
In retaliation for his best friend’s death, John chases down and kills one of the Flag-Smashers. What’s shocking is that he brutally kills the man with Captain America’s shield in full public view in the middle of a town square with on-lookers recording it on their phones.
It’s very disturbing to see a symbol for good like Captain America’s shield being sullied by blood like that. We only have two episodes left and it looks like John Walker is getting closer to becoming the real antagonist of the series.
How will the world react to this brutal murder at the hands of the new Captain America? We’ll have to wait and see in next week’s episode. Until then, stay tuned, true believers, and excelsior!
