It Looks Like We May Not See A Days Gone 2…
By Jonathan ToyadVerified|April 12, 2021|0 Comment
As middling as action-adventure game Days Gone was, it showed a lot of promise and should at least merit a sequel that could work out its technical and pacing issues. Sadly, we won’t be getting one though this is not made official or anything.
See, former Bend Studio game director Jeff Ross discussed topics regarding the recent Bloomberg Sony PlayStation and The Last of Us remake report on a livestream set up in David “God of War guy” Jaffe’s YouTube channel. He mentioned that there was a pitch for a Days Gone sequel. Days Gone 2 was to feature a shared universe and co-operative play components.
“We wanted co-op from the beginning [in Days Gone 1], but obviously you have to make concessions for what you’re not going to be able to do. It’s one of the things that we had in our pitch, yeah. It was the idea of a shared universe with co-op play.
[The idea was] [taking] this world that you’ve built, and all these assets and systems, and repurpose them for some sort of similarly themed multiplayer version of this universe. So [it] would be with guys like Deacon trying to survive, building up a clubhouse or a crew. I think it would be fun to be in that world cooperatively and see what horde battles could be like.”
Unfortunately, Jeff Ross was unable to confirm its cancellation on the podcast due to possible non-disclosure agreements post-Sony. In fact, he cannot confirm the game’s situation. The game may be in limbo or even be in production under another developer in Sony’s internal studio.
“I don’t think it’s publicly confirmed what the status of [Days Gone 2] is. I don’t want to be the guy who’s the official source for whatever that is.”
I’ll say this: we wouldn’t mind seeing a second shot of Days Gone, but probably with new characters working alongside existing ones in the universe. That optional co-op idea is great and would be a nice mechanic against the relentless zombie horde you have to face in the game.
You can watch the full livestream below. Bring snacks; it’s about 4 hours long.
