The New Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Game Will Feature A “Brand New Story With New Characters’

Ubisoft’s E3 2021 presentation was capped off with a game that only a handful wanted: Avatar – Frontiers of Pandora, an upcoming game based on James Cameron’s Avatar film with the lovely CGI and 3D. And not much else.

Fortunately, the upcoming Avatar game will be sidestepping the story bits from the film entirely. In a VentureBeat interview, vice president of Disney and Pixar Games Luigi Priore explains that the game will feature a “brand new story with new characters” and will explore the “amazing science fiction world” of the film.

“[T]here was a time 15 or 20 years ago where playing the movie was something. You bought the game and played the movie. Things like the classic Aladdin game on Sega Genesis. You played the film. That was popular at the time, but gamers expect more now. They want to interact with their favourite characters and worlds, but they want to play new stories and do new things with those characters and worlds.

The whole idea is to have it be part of the storyline of that giant franchise on Pandora, but it’s not a ‘play the movie’ game. It’s an all-new open world, new characters That’s why it’s called Frontiers of Pandora. It takes place on another frontier, another area of the moon of Pandora.”

On a related note, Avatar 2 the film will be out in 2022; the same year the game will be out.
