Disney has released the first official trailer for Encanto, a new animated musical movie featuring eight new songs from Moana and Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. Set in Colombia, Encanto is directed by Zootopia co-directors, including Byron Howard and Jared Bush, as well as newcomer Charise Castro Smith.
Best of all, this will mark the first time the entire score of the Disney animated movie will be written entirely by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The lead role, Mirabel Madrigal, will be played by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz.
The synopsis reads:
“Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto.
The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal; every child except one, Mirabel (Beatriz).
But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.”
Disney’s Encanto will premiere on 24 November 2021.
