Battlefield 2042 To Feature Cross-Play & Cross-Progression With A Catch

EA and DICE have confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will feature cross-play between PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Meanwhile, those on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to play against each other.

However, it’s important to note that there won’t be cross-gen play, which means that PS4 players won’t be able to play with PS5 players and so on and so forth (Xbox One with Xbox Series X/S). This is because of the difference in the maximum player count limit; 64 players for last-gen consoles versus 128 players for next-gen consoles and PC.

In a new blog post, the developer also confirmed that players on PC and consoles can choose to opt out of cross-play or playing against each other. This is good news for those who are worried about the differences between mouse and keyboard and gamepad/controller players.

The game’s cross-play feature will be tested during its upcoming technical playtest, which has been delayed to sometime later in summer 2021.

Another piece of good news is that DICE is also working on adding cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms.

In the same blog post, DICE said:

“Your unlocked progress and purchases in your PlayStation copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice versa.”

In addition, EA also recently confirmed that Battlefield 2042 will not feature a traditional single-player story campaign.

Battlefield 2042 is slated to launch for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 22 October 2021.

In the meantime, check out the official gameplay trailer below:
