More Game Of Thrones Animated Spinoffs Are In The Works

HBO is currently working on two more animated series for Game Of Thrones, adding to the one previously confirmed animated project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, one of the three projects is set in a territory that was never seen on the original series: The Golden Empire of Yi Ti (or simply Yi Ti), a region in the continent of Essos, near the south-eastern limits of the known world.

The society is considered one of the oldest and most advanced societies in George R.R. Martin’s fictional world and is inspired by Imperial China. This is the equivalent of how Westeros was inspired by Medieval Europe/England. Yi Ti has also been referenced via a character in HBO’s upcoming prequel series, House Of The Dragon, where Lord Corlys Velaryon the ‘Sea Snake’ is mentioned to have sailed to Yi Ti.

HBO has also cancelled one of the many live-action prequels for Game Of Thrones. Flea Bottom was supposed to be based on life in the infamous King’s Landing slum of the same name, featuring the lives of characters living there.

The only confirmed Game Of Thrones project with a release date is House Of The Dragon, and that’s slated to premiere sometime in 2022. Meanwhile, other spinoffs floating around and in development include:

  • 10,000 Ships, which follows the warrior queen Nymeria, a revered ancestor of House Martell who founded the kingdom of Dorne,
  • 9 Voyages, from Rome creator Bruno Heller, which follows Velaryon, who is played by British actor Steve Toussaint in House Of The Dragon.

However, it’s currently unclear if any of these other projects, including the two new animated series, will see the light of day. HBO has yet to officially comment. In the meantime, you can read all about the star-studded cast in House Of The Dragon by heading over here.
