Here’s A Look At Ubisoft’s New Free-To-Play 6v6 Shooter [Update]

Update: added in current reception for XDefiant.

Because Ubisoft’s shooter Hyper Scape was such a big hit, the company decided to take another stab at the free-to-play team-based shooter market. Enter XDefiant, a 6v6 title featuring three factions from previous Tom Clancy games duking it out: the Echelon, the Wolves, the Cleaners, and the Outcasts.

If those groups sound familiar, that’s because they’re from past Ubisoft games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division. Each faction has its own character abilities like Outcasts being healers, Wolves being tanks that use shield barriers, and Cleaners who have flamethrowers.

Here’s a look at XDefiant in action, if you’re into group-based shooters. Do check out how many likes/dislikes it’s getting and try to act shocked.

The game is described as “fast-paced firefights meets punk rock mosh pits”, which is the last thing I expect out of a Tom Clancy IP. If we’re being blunt about it, it’s just Ubisoft using its existing military brand (the Tom Clancy line) and making its own version of a Call of Duty multiplayer shooter that doesn’t move as methodically as Rainbow Six Siege. Which is fine, though it’s pretty saturated.

Being a F2P game, do expect constant updates and new factions, as well as microtransactions because titles like these aren’t really free.

If this sounds like your jam, you can sign up for the PC-exclusive test build here. The game’s first playable test will start in just a few weeks; 5th August to be precise. Based on the game’s current feedback in the comments section, I think there’s going to be enough room for you to join in.
