It’s time for the favourite anime season for fans everywhere, Summer! This particular season has a history of releasing the best titles of the year, so I’m sure many are hyped for what the new season has to offer.
If you’re indecisive on what to watch, not to fear — we have you covered! Without further ado, here are our picks for the best sequel and non-sequel anime to watch this Summer 2021.
Your favourite quirky Dragon Maid is making a come back on 8 July! It was a huge hit when it first aired back in 2017 and many fans were hoping to see a second season. This time, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid will offer even more cute, comedic, and sometimes chaotic scenarios for you at home.
While enjoying their laid-back pace of life, a new mysterious threat will soon come to interrupt their peace. Let’s hope this season will not disappoint!
The popular series, Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta (or My Next Life as a Villainess for short) is back with Season 2! The story revolves around Katarina, a high school girl who was isekai’d into a video game, not as the heroine but as the main villain.
In the first season, she tried her best to avoid all the bad endings and to her surprise, she succeeded! She also befriended a close group of friends. This season, Katarina will officially start off her journey with no prior knowledge of what’s waiting for her ahead.
Will she be able to continue her legacy of success, or will it lead to a catastrophic bad end? Find out on 3 July, especially if you’re fans of visual novel games and their tropes/structure.
Recently, detective-themed animes have been on the rise. Tantei wa mou, Shindeiru is one of the latter! The story starts with Kimihiko Kimizuka, a high school student who attracts trouble no matter the time and place.
With this unique talent, he fought alongside a young girl named Siesta in a secret war against an organisation of pseudo-humans, but sadly, she passed away at a young age. After the unfortunate incident, Kimizuka spends a peaceful year while maintaining a low profile. This is up until he meets someone strikingly similar to his ex-partner, who will soon bring trouble into his life again. Find out more on 4 July!
Vanitas no Carte/The Case Study of Vanitas is another fantasy series airing on 3 July. Based on the manga of the same title, the anime is focused on vampires who are on the brink of extinction and the ‘Book of Vanitas’, a book said to be capable of placing a curse on all vampires.
The story is set in France during the nineteenth century following Noé, a young vampire who is travelling to Paris in search of the ‘Book of Vanitas’. During his travels, he will encounter a human doctor named Vanitas who is in possession of the very same book If you’re interested in what happens next, be sure to check out this seriesï¼
Note: This anime will be split into 2-cour series, and will continue its second half in the Fall 2021 season.
