Cyberpunk 2077’s Next-Gen Ports May Not Be Out This Year

Cyberpunk 2077, the sci-fi RPG that has disappointed many people but was also played and cherished by equally as many, may not have its next-gen ports out in time this year.

According to CD Projekt in recent shareholders results call (via VGC), the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game are not guaranteed to launch in 2021, despite being the target timeframe for the aforementioned ports. SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski said that CD Projekt wants to learn from the disastrous launch of the game last year and not over-promise and under-deliver once again. He also brought up The Witcher 3 as a frame of reference.

“The target is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year. At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.

With The Witcher 3, the situation is slightly different in the way that this is being tackled by the external team mainly, which is Saber Interactive, the company that we have worked with before on Switch and also with updates in the past.

As with Cyberpunk 2077, our goal is to release that game still in late 2021. However, similarly, the development process is ongoing, and we cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change.

But for the time being, we definitely are aiming with both titles for late 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific at this moment in time.”

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold at least 13 million copies on all its platforms at this point in time. As for CD Projekt’s reputation? That’s still being amended following it being ripped to shreds upon the game’s release and its last-gen console version bugs and woes.
