Another Overwatch Lead Is Leaving Blizzard

A news report on Bloomberg states that a key Overwatch executive producer is leaving Blizzard: Chacko Sonny.

Sonny’s departure was announced to the staff via email; Blizzard co-runners Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra mentioned that he was a “thoughtful leader”. Sonny himself said that his time at Blizzard as being “one of the best experiences of my career”.

His departure doesn’t actually spell disaster for Overwatch 2 however. In a statement to PC Gamer, Blizzard said his departure was due to him taking a break from game production in general.

“Chacko Sonny is leaving Blizzard to take some time off after 5 years of service. The deep, talented Overwatch team is making excellent progress on Overwatch 2, and thanks to their hard work, the game is in the final stages of production. We’ll be sharing more at the Overwatch League Grand Finals later this month.”

While not as high profile as Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan (who left the company earlier this year), Sonny was still integral to the series as he has served as its executive producer for three years, and was also a production director two years prior to that.
