Blizzard Announces New Diablo 4 Director

A while ago, we reported about the departure of former Diablo 4 director Luis Barriga. Turns out his replacement is new game director Joe Shely.

Shely is a long-time Blizzard employee with game designer credits on Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, and World of Warcraft expansions. He’s also the design lead for Diablo 4 since the start of the project. So that’s good news, since Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls was the only reason I continued on with the game still after the s***show that was the original D3. Here’s an update about the game from Shely himself:

“Like many of you, our team has been reflecting upon recent events. A lot has happened since our last blog and the hard work of practicing the values we aspire to must continue. In parallel with that important work, development of Diablo IV continues too.

Over the past few years, we’ve assembled a strong team with incredible passion for Diablo 4.You, Diablo’s fans, are a critical part of this team. With the help of your valuable feedback, we’ve steadily refined and deepened the game experience. We have ways to go, and while much has changed, our commitment to the game is unwavering.”

Right now, Blizzard is dealing with the workplace and sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit fallout from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. Recently, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are investigating Activision Blizzard in relation to the lawsuit.

As of now, enjoy this ambient sound effect video from Diablo 4.
