Terraria Mobile Sales Surpass One Million Units In China

505 Games has announced that after its recent commercial release, Terraria sold over 1 million units in China on mobile platforms and soared to the top of local charts on TapTap and the iOS App Store in both the premium and sandbox game categories in the country.

Terraria, developed by Re-Logic, ported to mobile platforms by 505’s affiliate DR Studios and published by 505 Games globally on mobile and console platforms, is a side-scrolling action-adventure sandbox game that focuses on crafting unique items, exploring vast worlds and battling various enemies. It blends a traditional 2D combat system with expansive crafting mechanics and randomly generated pixel worlds.

In China, 505 Games partnered for Greater China territories with the leading mobile premium game publisher, XD Inc. After the successful launch in Mainland China, 505 Games and XD Inc. are looking forward to next years’ release in the rest of Greater China.

Raffi Galante, 505 Games Co-CEO and Co-Founder, said:

“These preliminary results illustrate once again how Terraria truly is a timeless masterpiece in our industry, bringing joy to gamers in Beijing and Shanghai just like in New York and London. This is a remarkable achievement for Terraria and our company; this confirms once again the importance of a local approach to strategy, publishing operations and game development in China and Asia.”

XD CEO Dash Huang said:

“The release of Terraria has once again given us a glance into immense potential of the mobile games community, especially with Terraria garnering over 32,000 reviews on TapTap in just a few weeks.”

In order to appeal to gamers in Mainland China and stand out in the hyper-competitive  local market XD Inc. dedicated considerable production resources to officially bring the highly anticipated 1.4 update to Chinese gamers, by enhancing localization, adding territory-specific social features and tweaking some key art to match local tastes and preferences.

XD Inc. is also the publisher of other 505 Games mobile hits, including Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Human: Fall Flat.
