Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Is Re-Evaluating Its Relationship With Activision Blizzard
Talk about reading the room.
First, it was Sony Interactive president and CEO Jim Ryan criticizing Activision Blizzard in an internal email. Now, it’s Xbox boss Phil Spencer sending a similar email to Microsoft staff (via Bloomberg). Spencer said that the Xbox leadership team is “disturbed and deeply troubled by the horrific events and action” at Activision Blizzard. He is currently evaluating all aspects of Microsoft’s relationship with Activision Blizzard and “making ongoing proactive adjustments”. As long as the situation still remains, the partnership between the two could suffer.
“I personally have strong values for a welcoming and inclusive environment for all of our employees at Xbox. This is not a destination but a journey that we will always be on. The leadership at Xbox and Microsoft stand by our teams and support them in building a safer environment for all.”
Could this mean that certain Activision/Blizzard games may end up being blacklisted on Xbox Game Pass? That would be pretty drastic but it would send a message for the company to change it ways. Nothing makes a company shift its tune by cutting off most of its revenue.
