Amazon Might Be Making A Mass Effect TV Series

The adventures of Captain Shepard and his space alien crew might be coming to a livestreaming service near you.

Deadline reported that Amazon is now “nearing a deal” to turn the Bioware RPG trilogy into a high-budget TV show. Here’s a quote from Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke about the upcoming adaptation:

“One of the company’s newest hopefuls in the arena is Mass Effect. Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best-selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts.

You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more.”

With Amazon’s current sci-fi series The Expanse about to wrap up with its sixth and final season, there will be a need for a sci-fi show hole that needs filling in Amazon. A live-action Captain Shepard using relays to save the galaxy from space Reapers sounds like something pretty cool to watch. A TV show with seasons would tell a better story than a single movie would, anyway. Speaking of which, the Mass Effect movie is cancelled earlier this year as Legendary Pictures has walked away from the project.
