Massive Games Company Acquires Dark Horse Comics
By Alleef Ashaari|December 22, 2021|0 Comment
Dark Horse Comics is now officially part of the Embracer Group, which announced its purchase of the third-largest comic book publisher in the US (after Marvel and DC Comics) earlier today.
Dark Horse Comics was founded in 1986 and is famous for such titles as Hellboy, The Umbrella Academy, Sin City, as well as comics based on famous IPs like Star Wars and Alien. Based in Karlstad, Sweden, Embracer Group is the parent company of various video game developers, including THQ Nordic, Koch Media, Coffee Stain, Amplifier Game Invest, Saber Interactive, DECA Games, Gearbox Entertainment, and Easybrain.
Dark Horse CEO Mike Richardson said (via press release):
“I can’t express the excitement I feel as Dark Horse moves into this new chapter in our history. The synergies that exist with the Embracer network of companies promises exciting new opportunities not only for Dark Horse, but also for the creators and companies we work with.â€
This move opens up a whole world of possibilities for both Embracer Group and Dark Horse Comics. We could potentially get new Hellboy and The Umbrella Academy games, as well as perhaps new Saints Row or Borderlands comics. It might be a while before anything concrete comes out as a result of Embracer Group’s acquisition of Dark Horse Comics, but it’s just a matter of time until something exciting gets announced.
The last Hellboy game was 2008’s Hellboy The Science Of Evil, though he did appear as a playable fighter in Injustice 2 in 2017.
