Call Of Duty Warzone Developers Organize Walkout Following Layoffs
By Alleef Ashaari|December 7, 2021|0 Comment
Developers and employees at Raven Software are organizing a walkout today in protest of the ongoing slew of layoffs which started last Friday on 3 December 2021. The studio is responsible for developing and working on Call Of Duty Warzone, and thus they are under Activision Blizzard.
In a statement to Kotaku, the walkout group said that they were only demanding one thing; that the company grants full-time positions to all QA testers, including everyone who’s been laid off.
The full statement reads:
“Those participating in this demonstration do so with the continued success of the studio at the forefront of their mind.
The Raven QA department is essential to the day-to-day functioning of the studio as a whole. Terminating the contracts of high performing testers in a time of consistent work and profit puts the health of the studio at risk.â€
The QA staff started getting laid off since Friday, 3 December 2021. As part of the first wave, 30 percent of Raven’s QA team has already been terminated, which will go into effect on 28 January 2021. More meetings will apparently be held to determine the fate of other QA testers in the following weeks.
According to the walkout group, every QA developer affected by the layoffs were in “good standing†with the company and that they were actually vital to the development of the game. Some of those who have been laid off were those who recently moved to Wisconsin using their own money in order to prepare for returning to offices after a long while of COVID-19 shutdown.
In a tweet by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, around 40 QA testers will take part in the walkout and they will remain in walkout until the layoffs are reversed. All of this just adds to all the bad stuff already happening at Activision Blizzard and it looks like things won’t get better anytime soon.
