Grand Tour Gang Shuts Down Car Community Platform After 5 Years

Popular car enthusiast online community Drivetribe, created by ex-Top Gear/Grand Tour presenters, has announced the closure of its website by the end of January 2022.

In a blogpost of the very site, the team at Drivetribe.com and particularly the presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond had sad news to share with their fans as they declared that the Drivetribe website and application would be shutting down permanently after 5 years. This along with their more food-centric blog Foodtribe will come to a close by the end of January.

This news came as the result of months of significant industry challenges, specifically severe reductions in marketing budgets across the industry with the COVID-19 pandemic adding fuel to the fire. The blog post shared how a global shortage of computer chips caused significant problems for the automotive industry, leaving businesses that depend on advertisements such as Drivetribe to struggle.

A brief but apologetic statement was shared from each of the Grand Tour gang in the blogpost. Jeremy Clarkson went on to say:

“We’re all really disappointed that challenges in the industry – not in the least helped by the ongoing pandemic – have simply made it impossible to continue with the business in its current form.”

Despite the disappointing news, the team shared a glimmer of hope as they informed that Richard Hammond will be keeping the DriveTribe community alive through their social media channels which will remain very much in action. The blog post went on to tease some of Hammond’s upcoming projects such as the Smallest Cog Workshop, with promises of appearances of even Clarkson and May.

Hammond shared that the Drivetribe YouTube channel will still be running with content to come. Perhaps this is not the end for followers of the community.
