Sony Pulls PS Now Gift Cards, May Signal The Arrival Of PS Game Pass
By Alleef Ashaari|January 13, 2022|0 Comment
UK store retailers have been asked to remove PlayStation Now subscription cards from their stores by 21 January 2022. In a statement to IGN, PlayStation said:
“Globally, we are moving from PlayStation Now Gift cards to focus on our current cash denomination PlayStation gift cards, which can be redeemed for PlayStation Now.â€
While that’s PlayStation’s official statement on the matter, we can’t help but wonder if this move also means that Sony is closer to announcing their own Game Pass-like service. In December 2021, a Bloomberg report claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment will introduce a new service code-named Spartacus, which will offer a catalogue of modern and classic games for a monthly fee.
The source even says that Sony will phase out PlayStation Now, which is what’s already slowly happening right now. The PlayStation Spartacus Game Pass-like service is expected to launch in Spring 2022, with different prices for different tiers. We’ll have to wait to see if there’s any truth to all that, but 2022 will likely be a big year for the games industry as a whole as the next-gen consoles start making their mark.
