Every day from December to January, we’ll be posting our top 30 games of 2021 daily. Here’s number 2.
#2: Psychonauts 2
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Psychonauts was one of those games that remained a popular gem from the PS2 days (it came out in 2005!). When Tim Schafer and Double Fine announced the sequel, many were worried. Thankfully, Psychonauts 2 was nothing like Shenmue 3. It’s actually a great game that reminds us how good 3D platformers can be when they’re done well (looking at you, Balan Wonderworld).
Psychonauts 2 still has the same weird and bizarre aesthetics we all loved from the first game, and Raz’s arsenal of psychokinetic powers are a blast to use. It proves that there’s still a place for 3D platformers even in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S era where companies are scrambling to make the next AAA photorealistic games.
Good story, good gameplay, good characters, all of whom exudes charm and personality. And most importantly: closure for its many, many fans. What more could you want out of a sequel 6 years in the making?
