Wild Rift Rushes Out Of The Brush With Its First Competitive Season
By Fitri Razif|January 10, 2022|0 Comment
Wild Rift players will be rushing out from their Nexus as the game begins its foray into the competitive esports scene. Riot Games has officially released their first competitive season with the launch of Southeast Asia’s regional league, the Wild Rift Champions SEA (WCS).
Opening its registration until 15 January 2022, the regional leagues will consist of six competitive sub-regions including Hong Kong & Taiwan, Malaysia & Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The opening qualifiers will use a Swiss Bracket format with each team playing seven rounds of best-of-3 matches.
The top eight teams will proceed to the knockout stage, competing in a double-elimination bracket for a spot in the regular season. Other parts of the world will be running their own respective regional leagues parallel to SEA.
The regular season begins on 15 February 2022, which will run for five weeks until 27 March 2022. It will utilize a double round-robin format, which will include teams that have advanced through the open qualifiers along with those who have been directly invited. The eight teams will compete against every other team twice in best-of-3 matches, with the top six proceeding to the WCS Playoffs that run from 1 April to 1 April 2022.
In other news, the start of this competitive season also brings along the announcement of the official global tournament, the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship. It will set the stage for the best players in the world to duke it out at the highest level of competitive play to crown the first-ever Wild Rift world champion. The global tournament will take place in Europe this summer, so players will have plenty of time to tune their skills and figure out their team comps in the meantime.
24 teams will make up the roster with eight qualifying straight from regional competitions, and 16 battling through the play-in stage. The main event will consist of the main stage and a knockout stage for the big final to crown the best Wild Rift team in the world for this year.
