Diablo Immortal Will Be Out In Open Beta This June; PC Version Also Confirmed
Blizzard has announced the release date of the upcoming action RPG Diablo Immortal: 2nd June 2022. That’s less than 2 months from now.
As a bonus, Blizzard also mentioned that the game will get a PC version too. The game will enter open beta on PC when the mobile version launches this June. Players can now sign up for the open beta ahead of launch in June. Check ou the official announcement below, featuring a ton of words and excitement from game director Wyatt Cheng and senior manager of community development Adam Fletcher.
For those not in the know, Diablo Immortal takes place in an “untold chapter in the Diablo saga.”
“The Archangel Tyrael is presumed dead, and mankind is left to deal with the aftermath of his actions. Fragments of the shattered Worldstone, still embued with great power, are tainting the land. Diablo’s minions hope to harness that power to allow the Lord of Terror to return.”
Diablo Immortal will feature cross-play and cross-progression between the PC and mobile version. All progress in the PC open beta will carry forward into the full release.
Normally I would say “but why though?” regarding the PC version of Diablo Immortal since Diablo 3 exists, seasons and all. Then I realize that Blizzard might want to follow the free-to-play cross platform trend set by other online RPGs like Genshin Impact. A free action RPG with the Diablo caliber means more people jumping on board. Of course, this could mean further delay periods for Diablo IV. Hypothetically, if Diablo Immortal does gangbusters in the next 12 months after its June launch, the de facto new action RPG will take its time basking in the limelight, further giving more time for people to keep working on and perfecting Diablo IV.
We played quite a lot of Diablo Immortal on Android phones; it’s really fun as an action RPG diversion with room to grow and loads of potential to take the limelight away from other action RPGs that are free. I am curious as to how the PC version will play when it’s available later.
