The new Star Trek series, which stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, is a spinoff of the second season of Star Trek Discovery, which recently ended its fourth season. The character of Captain Pike was originally played by Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek pilot in 1964. That pilot never aired, but the footage was repurposed on an episode of Star Trek The Original Series in 1966.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds is set a few years prior to the events of Star Trek The Original Series, but features many familiar characters since it’s essentially a prequel. Rebecca Romijn plays Captain Pike’s first officer Una (also known as Number One) and Ethan Peck is science officer Spock.
Also in the mix are Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga (both characters from the classic show) plus Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel. Meanwhile, Christina Chong will be playing La’an Noonien-Singh, a character who will be somehow related to iconic Star Trek villain Khan Noonien-Singh.
This will be the fifth Star Trek series on Paramount+, after Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek Picard, Star Trek Lower Decks and Star Trek Prodigy.
