Capcom: There Are No Legal Issues With Putting In Fei Long In Street Fighter Games
Capcom recently played down reports here and there about long-running Street Fighter character Fei Long, who is obviously a Bruce Lee tribute, not being able to appear in the 2D fighting game due to legal issues with the Bruce Lee estate.
According to Eurogamer who spoke with Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama, he and the company denied that there were any issues preventing the character’s use in the fighting title.
“That whole Bruce Lee estate information they mentioned turned out to not be real. I can’t say whether he’s coming or not, but there are definitely no legal issues.”
If you’ve seen Fei Long in Super Street Fighter 2, he is clearly inspired by the famous martial artists-slash-actor. Last month, Street Fighter 5 composer Daniel Lindholm suggested Fei Long may not be featured in the game because the Bruce Lee estate insists depictions of the star to be “honourable” rather than humourous. The official Bruce Lee Twitter then stated that it had issued no directive.
In any case, I do hope he makes some sort of appearance in part 6, whether as part of the roster or a cameo of sorts. Speaking of which, Street Fighter 6 is looking awesome; here’s what we know about it so far.
