By Lewis LarcombeVerified|September 22, 2022|0 Comment
TMS Entertainment has announced its newest project which is a new cel-shaded CG crossover anime between Lupin III and Cat’s Eye aptly named “Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye”. The anime will debut worldwide exclusively on Amazon Prime globally in 2023.
As of now, there has been no word on how long the anime will be.
The crossover is in commemoration of both the 50th anniversary of the Lupin III anime and the 40th anniversary of Tsukasa Hojo’s Cat’s Eye manga. The anime will be set in Cat’s Eye’s original 1980s time period. The Cat’s Eye sisters are again aiming to steal three paintings that once belonged to their father, but this time, Lupin is after the same catch. But the paintings will also reveal a long-buried mystery.
Kanichi Kurita and Keiko Toda both reprise their roles as Lupin III and Hitomi Kisugi, respectively.
Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, who co-directed the Knights of Sidonia anime and Godzilla anime movie trilogy, will direct the crossover, with Keisuke Ide joining from the anime series Levius as assistant director and Shuji Kuzuhara most known for Pazudora penning the script.
The new anime will see both composers of the Lupin III and Cat’s Eye series Yuji Ohno and Kazuo Otani come together in this project. Leading the character design will be Levius’ original creator Haruhisa Nakata and Junko Yamanaka from Kono Oto Tomare: Sounds of Life. Naoya Tanaka and Ferdinando Patulli are credited for production design. To round up the notable members of the production team are Mitsunori Kataama as the art director, Aya Hida as the editor and Youji Shimizu as the sound director.
This will be the latest instalment to the Lupin III franchise following Lupin III Part 6 which premiered on the NTV channel in Japan in October 2021.
Tsukasa Hojo’s Cat’s Eye manga centres around three sisters who run a cafe by day, and are notorious art thieves by night. The manga ran from 1981 to 1985 and inspired two anime seasons by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. The first 36-episode season aired between 1983-1984, and the second 37-episode season aired from 1984-1985.
