Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume No Tojimari Gets New Trailer
By Alleef AshaariVerified|September 30, 2022|0 Comment
Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume No Tojimari has received a new trailer, which shows the male character, Souta Munakata (Hokuto Matsumura) turning into a chair.
Makoto Shinkai is directing the film and writing the screenplay, while Masayoshi Tanaka (Your Name, Weathering With You) is designing the characters. Kenichi Tsuchiya (Your Name, Garden Of Words) is the animation director, while Takumi Tanji (Children Who Chase Lost Voices) is the art director. CoMix Wave Films and Story Inc. are producing the movie. TOHO is distributing the film.
The synopsis reads:
Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a quiet town in Kyushu , meets Sota, a traveling young man who says, “I’m looking for a door.” After following him, she wanders into the mountain ruins and finds an old door that stands alone. Suzume reaches out to her door as if she is drawn to something, but…
It is said that misfortune will come from the other side of the door, so Sota continues his journey as a “master” who closes the door and locks it. Then suddenly, a mysterious cat, Daijin, appears in front of them.
“I like sparrows”.
“You are a nuisance”.
The moment Daijin begins to speak, Sota is transformed into a chair! It is a small chair with one missing leg that Suzume used when she was young . Suzume hurriedly chases Sota, who runs in the form of a three-legged chair to catch the fleeing Daijin.
Before long, doors began to open one after another in various parts of Japan. Led by a mysterious door and a small cat, Suzume’s “closed-door journey” involves Kyushu, Shikoku, Kansai, and Tokyo, as well as the Japanese archipelago. A forgotten truth awaits the sparrow at the place he arrived at with the help of an encounter he had on his travels.
Shinkai is best known for other anime movies like 5 Centimeters Per Second, Voices Of A Distant Star, The Garden Of Words, Your Name and Weathering With You.
In the meantime, check out my spoiler-free review of Weathering With You here, or head on over here for my spoiler-filled discussion of the movie’s problems. There’s also a live-action adaptation of Weathering With You (sort of), which you can check out here.
Suzume No Tojimari is slated to premiere in Japanese cinemas on 11 November 2022. There’s no news yet on a Malaysian release date.
