EA Is Developing Three Marvel Games, Including Previously-Announced Iron Man
By Alleef AshaariVerified|October 31, 2022|1 Comment
EA has revealed (via Bloomberg) that they will develop three Marvel games, including the previously-announced Iron Man game back in September 2022. However, EA didn’t provide details about any other characters that they plan to feature in upcoming games, or when they’re even coming out.
Speaking with Bloomberg, EA COO Laura Miele said:
“We have an intentional, deliberate strategy to have a balanced portfolio. There will be Marvel fans who don’t play other EA games. That’s been true with Star Wars.”
According to the source, Miele first contacted Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige four years ago for advice and later contacted Marvel head of gaming, Jay Ong, during the pandemic, which is when EA and Marvel agreed on a deal.
All we know about the Iron Man game so far is that it is now in early development at Montreal-based Motive Studio. The team is being led by Olivier Proulx, who brings experience working on past Marvel titles like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and is joined by a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans including Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio.
Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games, the game will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channelling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man. However, there is no release date or confirmed platforms as of now.
It will be interesting to see what the two other games will be, though it will likely be years before EA even gives us updates on those projects considering that Iron Man is still in pre-production. Still, it means that we’re getting more Marvel games, which is a good thing. Hopefully none of them ends up like 2020’s Marvel’s Avengers, and hopefully they focus on lesser-known Marvel characters who deserve the spotlight, not mainstream ones like Captain America or Thor.
