Thailand Game Show 2022: Become A Pirate Hunter In One Piece Odyssey’s Alabasta Reveal

With Thailand Games Show currently underway, yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a conference held by Bandai Namco where the producer of One Piece Odyssey, Katsuaki Tsuzuki revealed a bunch of new features to come with the launch of the game on 12 January.
A key point of the presentation was to showcase that the game has been localised to feature Thai and Indonesian dubs and text to cater towards their respective audiences.
A couple of weeks ago we found out that part of the game will take us back to Alabasta, making One Piece fans—such as myself—absolutely lose our minds. In Tsuzuki’s presentation at Thailand Games Show, a feature that was revealed was bounties. One Piece fans will be extremely familiar with the concept of bounties, but we’re yet to see anything in the source material about the Mugiwara actually catching and claiming bounties to earn a bit of extra dough.
In the presentation, it was unveiled that we can find wanted posters scattered around Alabasta and track down the targets to earn their bounty. That’s right, we can literally be Zoro’s old profession: a pirate hunter.
Although the trailer suggests that the Straw Hats revisit Alabasta through their memories, this will be the first time we see the Straw Hat pirates set foot in the desert kingdom post-time skip.
In the trailer, it was also revealed that we would be reunited with some familiar faces such as Vivi, Karoo, Bon-chan, Smoker and even the Straw Hats’ first ship, the Going Merry. It’s assumed that the return to Alabasta will be thanks to Lim as we see her accompanying Luffy and the crew.
The game is set to launch on 12 January 2023 for the PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S followed by PC via Steam the next day on 13 January.
