Bandai Namco Sues Former Worker For Embezzling US$4+ Million Over Smartphones
Bandai Namco Holdings will be suing a former employee for allegedly embezzling 600 million yen/US$4.65 million in damages (via Gamebiz.jp). Why? Because the employee sold internal company smartphones (for test/dev kits & playtesting upcoming mobile games) for personal profit and without permission.
According to its Bandai Namco Entertainment subsidiary, the company noticed a discrepancy between registered smartphones within the office and the amount actually being used by employees in November 2021, thus prompting an internal investigation. The company found out that the employee sold 4,400 company smartphones between April 2015 and April 2022. The employee was fired in December 2022.
It’s quite a loss & a blunder. To show that the company takes full responsibility, the Bandai Namco Holdings and Bandai Namco Entertainment executives will be taking monthly salary pay cuts between 10-30% for the next three months.
