Netflix’s Gears Of War movie is progressing quite well as the project adds Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts. He is best known for co-writing Warner Bros. Dune, Dune Part Two and 2016’s Doctor Strange. That’s pretty impressive, considering how good the first Dune movie was back in 2021 (check out our review here).

Speaking with Variety, Spaihts said:

“Gears Of War is one of the all-time great action games, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world, and a combat system that drives home the lethality of war and the importance of standing by your squadmates. It wants to be cinema, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to help that happen.”

Netflix’s plans to adapt the Gears Of War franchise includes live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, as well as more potential adaptations.

The first Gears Of War game was originally launched for Xbox 360 in 2006. The most recent instalment was 2019’s Gears 5 for the Xbox One and PC, as well as 2020’s Gears Tactics, which was a turn-based strategy spinoff game.

Netflix’s Gears Of War movie was originally announced back in November 2022.
