Toxic Crusaders Is Making A 4-Player Beat Em Up Comeback
By Jonathan ToyadVerified|March 16, 2023|0 Comment
Remember the 90s when animation studios would make all-ages cartoons out of R-rated movies like Robocop & Rambo? Well, movie-making house Troma Entertainment, famous for its violent and sexual films as well as for producing talent like James Gunn, made a cartoon called Toxic Crusaders in 1991. Said cartoon was based on the Toxic Avenger series of films; their contents are as different as night and day, with the latter being incredibly R-rated.
Fast forward to 2023, publisher and developer Retroware are making a 4-player beat-em-up based on the 90s cartoon. The game features offline co-op, old-school pixel-based graphics, and tons of beat-em-up action. Playable characters in the roster so far include Toxie, Junkyard, Nozone, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Mrs. Junko, and Yvonne.
The devs worked closely with Toxic Crusaders/Toxic Avenger creators Troma Entertainment and its founder Lloyd Kaufman, so you can expect cameos from films such as Poultrygeist, Class of Nuke’Em High, and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD.
Toxic Crusaders will be out for PC (Steam) and consoles in late 2023. Gameplay trailer’s below complete with a remixed theme song from Psychostick.
