Blue Beetle Trailer Sees The DC Hero Recreate The Iconic Final Fantasy VII Buster Sword

Warner Bros and DC Studios have unveiled the first trailer for Blue Beetle.

The first trailer for Blue Beetle teases a look at Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes and his encounter with the alien scarab Khaji Da.

The new trailer shows Jaime’s movie origin story. Alongside Maridueña, the cast includes George Lopez as Jaime’s uncle Rudy, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, Raoul Trujillo as the villainous Carapax, and Harvey Guillén in an unknown role.

In the comics, Jaime Reyes is actually the third person to carry the mantle of Blue Beetle. The first Blue Beetle was a police officer named Dan Garrett who donned bulletproof armour and took a sci-fi vitamin supplement to moonlight as a vigilante. The second (and most iconic) was Ted Kord, a genius inventor and self-made industrialist who styled himself as a wise-cracking superhero out of love for the Justice League and their good deeds. Kord is also best known for being the other half of a duo alongside Booster Gold.

The synopsis reads:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Directed by Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto, Blue Beetle will premiere on 17 August 2023.
