XDefiant Receives Summer 2023 Release Window & Another Open Beta

During this year’s Ubisoft Forward, it was announced that XDefiant is expected to drop this summer but before that, they’ll be holding one more Beta to stress test the servers and polish out any kinks they might still have lingering from April’s Beta.

The presentation opened with XDefiant’s lead, Mark Rubin sharing his gratitude towards everyone who participated in the Closed Beta back in April. During this he hinted that XDefiant will be launching this Summer but no release date has been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for that.

Open Beta

It was after this, that Rubin announced that they will be holding an Open Beta that anyone can participate in on Xbox Series X | S, PS5 and PC. I think it’s safe to say that they’re taking a page out of Activision Blizzard’s book when dealing with the Diablo 4 Open Beta as they completely neglected all marketing and made the beta focused around game and server performance.

The Open Beta will be from 21–23 June, with times/time zones still to be confirmed.

Launch Content

Following this, Rubin gave us a brief description on what to expect on launch. XDefiant will have a 6-Week Pre-Season with a lot of the content that was included in the previous beta. This includes:

  • 5 Factions (1 Unlockable)
  • 14 Maps (10 Arenas, 4 Progression)
  • 5 Modes (3 Arenas, 2 Progression)
  • 24 Weapons (44 Attachments each)

Now that’s quite a bit of content for the first 6 weeks. Completionists are definitely going to have their hands full.

If you’ve played the previous Beta then you’ll already be familiar with this. So what’s beyond the 6-Week Pre-Season? Well, Rubin teased a little bit about what’s to come in Year 1. We can expect:

  • 4 New Factions
  • 12 New Maps (1 per month)
  • 12 New Weapons (1 per month)

Unfortunately, that was all that Rubin had to say in this presentation but as we close in on Summer and the game’s release, we will get to hear more about what to expect over this next year. Until then be sure to stay tuned.
