Here’s How You Can Play Pokémon Sleep; Pre-Registration Now Available

As fans have wondered for months how Pokémon Sleep works, The Pokémon Company finally explained in a recent how-to video. Potential players can now get more information about its mechanics and how it interacts with the user’s sleeping habits.

Pokémon Sleep was officially announced during the Pokémon Day 2023 presentation, confirming the app is legit and slated to be released in Summer 2023. Despite the official announcement, most people are still confused about several aspects of Pokémon Sleep, thus, the creators decided to share more information on how users can “play” the app.

The how-to video explained that the game is an app that tracks the player’s sleep with a smartphone device to fill a Sleep Style Dex, similar to the classic Pokédex but with Pokémon sleeping in different styles. Based on the video, we can see Pokémon that feature in the app are Snorlax, Pikachu, Togepi, Diglett, Hufflepuff, and much more.

Aside from tracking players’ sleep habits, Pokémon Sleep has several mechanics to make it more interesting. Those who sleep more will get a higher Sleep score, which is then multiplied by Snorlax’s strength, giving a total figure called “Drowsy Power”. In general, the higher Snorlax’s Drowsy Power, allows players to catch more Pokémon sleep styles. Over time, as Snorlax grows, it also increases the chances of acquiring new sleep patterns. But that’s not all. With the app, users can track how long they slept, wake up at certain times, and listen to recordings of sleeping sounds.

An interesting part of the app is when users can determine which sleeping category they fall into; Dozing, Snoozing, Slumbering, or Balanced. Your sleeping style will then be matched with a specific Pokémon during the day. Are you a sleeping Raichu? Hufflepuff? Or perhaps, Pikachu? So many possibilities in this unique sleeping app.

Although few are eager to try out the app, many have raised concerns that Pokémon Sleep may be tracking their sleep data, which they believe should be private. Pokémon GO has also been plagued by similar issues since it tracks the location of the users. This is somewhat unavoidable when a game requires real-life information to function.

Pokémon Sleep will launch on 14 July 2023 for iOS via App Store and Android through the Play Store. Pre-registration is now available on Google Play.
