RoboCop: Rogue City Gets Pushed Back To November
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|August 29, 2023|0 Comment
Robocop: Rogue City, the ultimate blend of man and machine in video game form, has decided to take the scenic route to its release. Initially set to drop in September, it’s now gearing up for a grand entrance on 2 November. The game will be available on major platforms such as PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
The scoop on the new release date came straight from the latest game trailer. This slick video serves up a tantalizing mix of gritty Old Detroit visuals and juicy gameplay snippets highlighting some detective action and seriously messy shootouts. Nacon, the publisher, has been tight-lipped about the delay reasons. Funny enough, their Steam page is still waving the September flag, despite this being the second time they’ve nudged the launch date. The game was initially eyeing a June debut, then tiptoed to September.
Ah, the nostalgia train had me excited (or cautiously optimistic, at least) for Robocop: Rogue City back in 2022. You know, all those feels from Paul Verhoeven’s iconic 1987 sci-fi flick about law enforcement’s future. But hey, a closer peek in June gave me chills. The movement? Let’s just say it’s taking its sweet time, fitting for the Robocop vibe, but that sluggishness might not be a hit throughout a whole video game. Those baddies with their questionable AI (seriously, do they practice standing and shooting?), Peter Weller sounding a tad too weathered, and the burning question of whether the satire will survive the transition – they’re all part of the mix. Verhoeven’s genius film is a witty takedown of corporate shenanigans (with some of the best cinematic villains ever, mind you). Now, while it could probably pass as a shoot-’em-up on the surface (the original film did look like a classic action flick at first glance), I’m not entirely sold that die-hard fans will be content without that sharp satirical edge.
But hey, hang tight, the answers are on their way, albeit fashionably late. You can get your “Robo-fix” by wishlisting Robocop: Rogue City right now on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s a waiting game, folks, but one that might just be worth it.
