ESL One Returns To Malaysia This December
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|September 20, 2023|0 Comment
Brace yourselves because ESL One is making a grand comeback in Malaysia this December, from the 11th to the 17th. It’s Dota 2 on steroids, featuring 12 of the planet’s best Dota 2 squads, all duking it out for a massive US$1,000,000 prize pool. That’s over RM4.6 million, in case you were wondering.
Hold on to your hats because this year’s shindig is shifting from Genting to Kuala Lumpur. Mark your calendars for 15-17 December because that’s when the playoffs go live at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). It’s gonna be epic!
Now, let’s break down the format. ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 kicks off with a three-day Group Stage from 11-13 December. Two groups of six teams going head to head in a single round-robin setup. The top six contenders from the Group Stage get a golden ticket to the live Playoffs, going down from 15-17 December. Brace yourselves for a double-elimination showdown. Exciting stuff, right? Keep your ear to the ground because the list of competing teams will drop soon.
Shane Clarke, the Director of Game Ecosystems – Dota 2 at ESL FACEIT Group, couldn’t contain his excitement:
“We know Dota fans across Southeast Asia have been eagerly waiting for the return of ESL One for over a year now. This December, we’re bringing back ESL One, bigger & more accessible than ever before, as we move the tournament from Genting to Kuala Lumpur for the first time.
We’re ready to put on a world-class tournament at MITEC, and look forward to returning to the region soon with more incredible live Dota 2 action and experiences.”

Now, here’s the juicy scoop that’ll add a whole new layer of excitement to ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. Brace yourselves for a theme that’s bound to get your imagination running wild: “Rise Above Fate.” Yeah, you heard that right! The entire tournament is getting a mystical makeover, drawing inspiration from Kuala Lumpur’s enchanting vibes and its treasure trove of folklore.
Carolin Linden, the Senior Marketing Creative guru at ESL FACEIT Group, spilled the beans on this fascinating twist.
“Our theme draws inspiration from Kuala Lumpur’s mystic charm and rich folklore, inviting players and fans alike on a transformative journey. A journey led by none other than Nerif, the Oracle and great foreseer. His prophecies don’t merely predict the future – they shape it. As courses collide in the grand battle for the crown, we’ll have to wait and see if fate is something to be conquered. Knowing Oracle … it could go either way.”
So, expect some mind-bending artwork and mystical references throughout the tournament. You never know, fate might just be the wild card in this Dota 2 showdown. Buckle up, folks!
