Level Up KL 2023 + MYDCF: All Coverage & News So Far
This year’s Level Up KL 2023 gaming B2B and B2C expo is a big one indeed. With companies like Shueisha on-board giving talks about game industry expansions, as well as publishers like Neon Doctrine and Toge Productions educating would-be developers and publishers, the weekend of 28 September to 1st October is a prime time for Kuala Lumpur to be a lovely bastion of game development in Southeast Asia.
The B2B portion of Level Up KL 2023 opened up with a keynote from MDEC director Mohan Low who talked about the disruptions in the creative and gaming industries, but also the convergence of different ideals and propositions like VR, subscription-based gaming, and the metaverse. While that is great and all, one should never lose sight of the fact that these conventions are also great avenues for indie developers and big publishers/game developers like EA Malaysia and Larian Studios (Malaysia) to showcase their games and career opportunities.
Speaking of which, Larian Studios Malaysia also chaired a panel talking about the making of Baldur’s Gate 3 from the team’s perspective, using a 24-hour production cycle which the company head Swen Vincke mentioned to us in an earlier interview. This, and many more panels on the schedule (see below), help cement Level Up KL 2023 as one of the premiere events for game development and industry insights in the region.
