Final Fantasy VII Fans Up In Arms About “Cait Sith” Pronunciation In Rebirth

The internet is on fire recently with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s latest update.

No, it’s nothing to do with the game itself, but rather a character’s name. The cat-like member of the team, Cait Sith, will be getting a proper introduction in the Remake/Rebirth series, so it’s only natural for Square Enix to voice out the pronunciation of his name.

Square Enix went with “Kate Sihth”.

Previously, the cat’s name was pronounced “Ket Shee” in its original Scottish Gaelic pronunciation, as it’s the name of a creature in Celtic mythology.

Some are not fans of this, while some are rejoicing that their seemingly-wrong pronunciation is made valid.

Guess the folks who made the game decided to have it be pronounced like it’s spelt. After all, this was made official in Dirge of Cerberus (check the 40-second mark):

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be out on 29 February for PlayStation 5. Check out our hands-on preview here.
