Overwatch 2 Fans Unite in Outrage Over Season 7 Battle Pass
By Xandria MordenVerified|October 12, 2023|0 Comment
Over the couple of weeks before Season 7 hit, fans were teased with Halloween events and skins over social media hyping them up. However less than 24 hours into the new season, and fans everywhere are outraged at Blizzard. The criticism mostly stems from outrage at the $40 Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle. The two highly-anticipated Diablo-themed skins teased prior before the season dropped: Lilith Moira and Inarius Pharah is not even purchasable on its own nor happened to be a part of the battle pass but is part of the $40 Bundle.
Since its release last year, Overwatch 2 has faced a lot of criticism from players due to its high shop prices and varying skin quality. This has been particularly disappointing for those accustomed to the original Overwatch’s loot box system. Numerous players believe that the skins, which are frequently available only in bundles with other cosmetics, are priced too steeply.
This reddit post has over 4.6k upvotes on the outrage that the Lilith Moira skin, which happens to be the main point of advertisement for the season is locked behind the 40$ Bundle. There are many more posts and responses and they all share the similar note.
Among the critiques surrounding the $40 Diablo bundle, there are additional remarks from individuals expressing disappointment with the Mythic Hanzo skin featured at the conclusion of the premium battle pass, especially when compared to previous seasons Mythics. Onry? Hanzo transforms the archer into a spectral demon and grants him a skeletal dragon ultimate, but it offers considerably fewer customization choices compared to other Mythic skins from previous battle passes.
Executive producer Jared Neuss response to this is that there are currently no formula to how Mythic Skins will be. However Hanzo’s Mythic focuses more on VFX differentiation rather than making the skin itself more customizable.
As an Overwatch fan myself, I am greatly disappointed to see most of these skins locked behind pricey bundles. The prices you have to pay for these bundles are not justifiable or worth in my opinion. It has been nice that they have been giving us more currency credits at the moment, and are re-releasing some old skins for players to purchase with these currencies. However I hope that Blizzard will be able to sort out the inconsistencies and releasing these premium bundles prices. We’ve just reached a year into Overwatch 2, and I’m willing to give them a little leeway in them testing out different approaches and changes to improve Overwatch 2 compared to Overwatch. Hopefully these skins will be attainable in the near future and not locked behind some crazy prices because who doesn’t want to own their own Mommy Lilith Moira?
