Renowned British Comedy Show Taskmaster Is Getting A VR Game
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|November 29, 2023|0 Comment
A virtual reality (VR) game inspired by the popular UK comedy show Taskmaster is currently in the works. Developed by the newly established studio Scallywag Arcade in collaboration with the show’s production company Avalon, Taskmaster VR is scheduled for release in 2024.
The game, compatible with Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Steam VR (available for wishlist on Steam), invites players to engage in a variety of comedic mini-games set by Taskmaster Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne. Players will have the opportunity to explore the Taskmaster House and studio, participating in tasks such as smashing watermelons, organizing rubber ducks, and popping bubbles.
A notable feature of the game is its emphasis on providing players the freedom to solve each task in their own unique way. Both Greg Davies and Alex Horne will not only have their likenesses featured in the game but will also contribute voice acting, promising a range of reactions from scorn to praise.
Greg Davies expressed excitement about the virtual reality adaptation, stating, “The team has done an incredible job, and the game is a really exciting addition to the Taskmaster world.” He humorously added, “On a personal note, the creation of a virtual reality Taskmaster takes me ever closer to my ultimate goal of working without even leaving my sofa.”
Alex Horne shared his enthusiasm, describing the game as “extraordinary, brilliant, and very fun.” However, he jokingly acknowledged the unique challenge of being a VR contestant with his virtual self observing and potentially undermining his confidence.
The development of Taskmaster VR is entrusted to Scallywag Arcade, a new studio led by industry veterans with previous experience at Warner Bros, Aardman, Just Add Water, and Merge Games.
