Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures Malaysia and Fast Track Events, we were given the opportunity to take part in a special Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom event with acclaimed film director James Wan himself, who is also best known for directing Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious and other movies.
During a Q&A session, James Wan spoke about many topics, including mentioning that he would very much like to direct a movie set in Malaysia one day. In case you’re unfamiliar, James Wan was born in Sarawak, Malaysia but was raised in Australia.
He said:
“I would definitely love to find a project that is set in Malaysia. And that is an honest answer. I’m not just saying that because I’m here.
Just getting to see Batu Caves, and flying over the country, and just what I remember growing up here, it’s so beautiful. I just want to find the perfect story.”
He also talked about how he ate several local dishes while in Malaysia. He added:
“I ordered laksa, Hainanese chicken rice and, of course, durians.”
In addition, he also mentioned how he was inspired by Silver Age comics while making Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, and that the movie will focus on Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman juggling his responsibilities as king, hero and father, as well as Yahya Abdul Mateen II’s Black Manta’s quest for revenge against Aquaman.
He added:
“We’ll get to see him finally being the king of Atlantis, and he’s also a dad, a husband, he’s just juggling a lot of responsibilities.”
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will premiere in Malaysian cinemas on 21 December 2023.
