The synopsis reads:

The Setting Of This Episode Is Inspired By Existing Comic Book Source Material

This episode is set in 1602 and that’s not just a random number.

Marvel 1602 was one of the most popular alternate universe comics, taking place in a timeline where Marvel superheroes exist in the Elizabethan era and written by Neil Gaiman (best known for The Sandman and American Gods).

A Rift Opens And Captain Carter Appears In The 1602 Universe

A random rift suddenly appears with Captain Carter appearing.

Steve Rogers 1602 Is A Robin Hood Type

And his name is Rogers Hood.

Also, Captain Carter said “I don’t think I will”, which is a reference to the same line spoken by the mainline MCU Steve Rogers in 2019’s Avengers Endgame.

But He’s Actually Steve Rogers From The Future

He’s from a future where he accidentally hit the Time Stone while fighting Thanos during the events of 2018’s Avengers Infinity War. This transported him to 1602, where he became the Forerunner and the reason for why this universe’s world is being destroyed.
