SEGA has a rich history of producing gaming gems that have captivated players around the world. The company has delivered high-quality gaming experiences that have stood the test of time. This year, SEGA continues to impress with a wide range of games that are not only visually stunning but also offer immersive and addictive gameplay. Whether you’re a fan of classic franchises or looking to discover new ones, this year’s offerings have something for everyone.

Plus what better way to cap off the year than playing your favourite games? Here are some of the best SEGA games that you should definitely try out this year:

Sonic Superstars

Genre: Adventure, Platformer, Fast-Paced, Action

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam.

Sonic Superstars is a brand new and thrilling high-speed action game that combines the classic feel of the 2D side-scrolling Sonic series with cutting-edge 3D graphics. Embark on a brand new adventure as Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles explore the mysterious Northstar Islands, home to gigantic creatures. For the first time in the Sonic series’ history, players will have the opportunity to team up with three other players locally, creating a dynamic and exhilarating multiplayer experience. With stunning visuals, smooth gameplay, and intense action, Sonic Superstars is set to become a must-have title for fans of the franchise and newcomers alike!

Endless Dungeon

Genre: Tower Defence, Roguelite, Strategy, Dungeon Crawler

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam.

Endless Dungeon is a captivating roguelike action game that challenges players to lead a group of courageous heroes as they strive to escape the confines of an abandoned space station teeming with formidable monsters, traps, and loot. This captivating title serves as a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Endless series, specifically the roguelike game Dungeons of the Endless.

In this enigmatic setting, your primary objective is not only to find a way out but also to protect the Crystal Bot from the relentless waves of monstrous hordes. The stakes are incredibly high, as failure would mean starting from scratch all over again. Despite this, in the continuous cycle of the game, there is always another chance for another attempt. The game presents a delightful fusion of effortlessness and surprising complexities, compelling players to become enthralled and hooked for hours. Best to experience the game with friends as solo play can be quite the challenge for those unfamiliar with tower defence and roguelike gameplay.

Football Manager 2024

Genre: Sports, Simulation, Strategy, Management

Platforms: PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.

Football Manager 2024 is a football strategy management game developed by Sports Interactive. It allows players to immerse themselves in the intricacies of managing a football team and strive for excellence. In this game, players have the opportunity to refine their tactics, uncover hidden gems in the form of wonderkids, and acquire the winning edge necessary to take their team to the top.

It is the 20th game in the Football Manager series, and the first to launch in Japan. Also joining the Football Manager line-up this year is Netflix, which is now the exclusive home of Football Manager 2024 Mobile.

The game boasts several enhancements that elevate the overall gameplay experience, particularly in key areas such as set pieces, man management, squad building, Matchday, and more. The football management is commonly described as the closest thing to being a football manager than actually being one.

Persona 5 Tactica

Genre: JRPG, RPG, Tactical Turn-Based Strategy

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam.

Persona 5 Tactica is a chibi-inspired spinoff of the massively popular Persona series. Joker and the Phantom Thieves return for a brand new adventure, this time with tactical RPG combat similar to Fire Emblem or XCOM. The spinoff features an all-new story in which players must navigate the Phantom Thieves across a new and unfamiliar realm, accosted by a militant psychic force known as the Legionnaires. In this conflict, they will meet a revolutionary named Erina who offers them her aid in exchange for a deal.

The game also offers three DLC packs for those who wish to spice up their gameplay experience. The first pack titled Repaint Your Heart Challenge features new game modes and additional characters, along with new battles with dynamic stages. The second, Picaro Summoning Pack & Raoul provides ‘Picaro’ versions of a number of key Personas in the game. These Personas will be free to summon within the game for the first time once purchased. Lastly, the Weapon Pack comes with a collection of unique weapon skins such as Picaro Sand Hawk, Picaro Levinson M31, Picaro Assault Rifle, Picaro G Launcher, and additional weapons.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

Genre: JRPG, Action RPG, Story Rich, Open World

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S PC via Steam.

If you’re a massive Yakuza stan, this title is not to be missed! A spinoff title from the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, introduces the return of hero Kazuma Kiryu. Players take on the role of Kiryu, who faked his death and forced himself out of the picture. He became an operative of the secretive Daidoji Faction, which seemingly wields control over Japan from behind the scenes. Under the codename Agent Joryu, Kiryu finds himself once again entangled in the chaotic world of the yakuza, as the Omi Alliance discovers he is still alive and abducts his partner.

The game takes place between Yakuza 6 and the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It stars Kazuma Kiryu once again, who faked his own demise at the end of Yakuza 6 in order to protect his family. Like a Dragon Gaiden returns to the series’ signature action brawler style. Like previous games in the series, players will be able to switch between different fighting styles in combat. However, this time around, only two options are available: Yakuza and Agent.

Like a Dragon Gaiden offers a variety of wacky activities, including karaoke, pocket circuit racing, cabaret club, golf, pool, and classic arcade games.

On Steam, the spinoff has garnered 4,054 “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews since its debut on 8 November 2023. We played the game and felt that this is a worthy bookend to the saga of Kazuma Kiryu and deserves all the accolades. It will take you 10 hours to wrap up the main story, but playing through all of the game will take 30+ hours!
