It has only been 4 days since The Day Before has been launched and it has already been a massive flop. The game had a disastrous launch in which even its Discord server was shut down after a surge of angry complaints and criticism from players. Today, the developers Fntastic Studio has announced its immediate shutdown due to bankruptcy.

“Today, we announce the closure of Fntastic studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue. All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners. We invested all our efforts, resources, and man-hours into the development of The Day Before, which was our first huge game. We really wanted to release new patches to reveal the full potential of the game, but unfortunately, we don’t have the funding to continue the work.” – the company says in a tweet.

The Day Before was first announced back in 2021 as an open-world MMO set in a zombie apocalypse. When the game was launched in Early Access on the 7th of December, it was an extraction shooter instead. Players were outraged to find the game had an extensive amount of bugs, a lot of glaring issues as well as server lag.

“At the moment, the future of The Day Before and Propnight [Fntastic’s previous release] is unknown, but the servers will remain operational. We apologize if we didn’t meet your expectations. We did everything within our power, but unfortunately,  we miscalculated our capabilities. Creating games is an incredibly challenging endeavor.” – The studio says in its closure announcement.
