Until Dawn Movie Adaptation In The Works From Shazam Director
By Alleef AshaariVerified|January 18, 2024|2 Comments
A live-action Until Dawn movie adaptation is in the works (via The Hollywood Reporter) and will be helmed by director David F. Sandberg, best known for directing both Shazam! movies (2019’s Shazam! and 2023’s Shazam! Fury Of The Gods) and several horror movies including 2016’s Lights Out and 2017’s Annabelle Creation.
The Until Dawn movie will be under Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions, with Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind hit horror franchises It, Annabelle and The Nun, working on the script, which was originally written by Blair Butler.
Until Dawn was originally released in 2015 for the PS4 and it’s an interactive horror video game by developer Supermassive Games that follows eight friends and frenemies who are brought together on a remote mountain retreat. With live-or-die scenarios featuring a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos, a cable car, and a long-ago mining cave-in that reverberates into the present day, the members of the group must fight through their fear if they all hope to make it through the night in one piece.
This will be the next movie from PlayStation Productions after HBO’s The Last Of Us, the Gran Turismo movie, and the Twisted Metal TV series on Peacock.
It will be interesting to see PlayStation Productions tackle a horror movie and since Until Dawn itself already feels like a movie in video game form, how will it translate into live-action? The game also used mo-cap with real actors such as Raimi Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Brett Dalton, Nichole Sakura, and others. Will the movie cast the same actors? We’ll have to wait and see.
