New Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Breakdown: Wolverine, Cassandra Nova, & Rob Liefield
By Alleef AshaariVerified|April 22, 2024|2 Comments
Marvel Studios has revealed the second trailer for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie.
The trailer is more than two minutes long but there are a lot of exciting easter eggs, so let the one and only ComicsLord break down the highlights of the trailer.
The trailer mentions that this version of Wolverine “let down his entire world”.
That perfectly describes Old Man Logan, though this might be a younger version, so the “event” must have just freshly happened.
In the Old Man Logan comics, Wolverine killed the entire X-Men due to an illusion created by Mysterio, which led to the world getting conquered by supervillains.
Again, this could easily be another version of Wolverine and not the one from the Old Man Logan universe.
In the background, we can see that one of the stores’ name is Liefield.
That’s likely a reference to Rob Liefield, the original creator of Deadpool.
In this trailer, we get a clearer look at Cassandra Nova, the main antagonist of the movie.
Emma Corrin plays the role of Cassandra Nova, the twin sister of Charles Xavier AKA Professor X.
In the comics, Cassandra is a “mummudrai,” a parasitic life form born bodiless on the astral plane. The mummudrai that became Cassandra became telepathically entangled with the future Charles Xavier, who possesses vast mutant telepathic powers. This granted Cassandra some psionic powers herself, including the ability to exit the womb and create a body.
Cassandra is Xavier’s ideological dark shadow, bent on destruction and genocide. She is most infamous for commanding an army of Sentinels to massacre 16 million mutants within the mutant homeland of Genosha.
Maybe Cassandra Nova will be the main villain of the movie.
We also see her using her psychic powers against Wolverine.
Lady Deathstrike has previously appeared in the 2003’s X-Men 2 movie.
She’s an enemy and former lover of Wolverine in the comics.
This might sound obvious, but this movie will be heavy in Multiversal hijinks and we see one of the portals here.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be the only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie coming out in 2024. It premieres in Malaysian cinemas in July 2024.
